Uganda: In the Realm of Golden Monkeys and Misty Volcanoes – Part One

Uganda: In the Realm of Golden Monkeys and Misty Volcanoes – Part One

I landed in Entebbe after a 12-hour flight from London. Entebbe, adjacent to Lake Victoria, benefits from a tropical rainforest climate with steady, pleasant temperatures throughout the year. It was enjoyable to stay and experience both Entebbe and Kampala—the relaxed lakeside charm of Entebbe and the vibrant energy of Kampala offered a nice introduction to Uganda. I stayed at Entebbe Forest Lodge, which provided a peaceful base to explore the local attractions. But like many other adventurous tourists, I was eager to travel southwest to visit Uganda’s national parks in search of mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

A Journey Through the Heart of the Mekong Delta

I spent three immersive days in Ho Chi Minh City, delving into its rich heritage and dynamic urban culture. With a blend of walking tours, Hop-On-Hop-Off buses, and the vibrant Vespa tour, I explored the multifaceted charm of the city. Yet, amidst the hustle of city life, I longed to experience the natural and cultural rhythm of Vietnam. A journey to the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s rice bowl, was a necessary pilgrimage …

The Iconic Victoria Falls Hotel

The iconic Victoria Falls Hotel is unlike any other traditional hotel. It’s a historic hotel that was built as part of an ambitious project amidst an extraordinary landscape, one of the natural wonders of the world. Its existence is due to the development of the railway system in Zimbabwe in the early 20th century. The original structure was built to accommodate the workers on the railway.

48 Hours in Devon, Part 2: On to Torquay

I arrived at the city of Torquay and spent some time by the harbour before going to my hotel. It was a sunny day in mid-April and the city had just began to recover from the effects of the pandemic. The harbour was relatively quiet with just a few tourists taking pictures of the beautiful boats and yachts moored there. People were enjoying the outdoor cafes and restaurants, some of whom were still wearing masks. This is the birthplace of Agatha Christie, born here in 1890.

48 Hours in Devon, Part 1: Dartington Estate

I’d always planned to visit South Devon so, after months of isolation due to COVID and it being springtime, I at last set out to explore its hidden treasures. I had passed through Torquay a few times in the past but now I had the opportunity to stay for 48 hours and discover those pristine seaside, picturesque villages, and charming landscapes and taste the local foods that I had heard about.

We began our explorations in the north of Managua and stayed at Selva Negra Ecolodge. My Wooden cottage was set in a nature reserve, where the sound of birds woke me up the next day. After breakfast, we set out on a bus tour to …

A glimpse of Nicaragua in 72 hours

It was September 2019, I was flying to Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America but it is less known to tourists. However, it has awakened to the strategic importance of tourism and aims to show its hidden beauties to the world.

We began our explorations in the north of Managua and arrived in Selva Negra Ecolodge, 12 kilometers from the town of Matagalpa. We only stayed one night at Hotel Selva Negra. My wooden cottage with a deck was set in a nature reserve environment within a forest, surrounded by a farm and coffee plantation. There were two lakes, one of them in front of the restaurant and the reception area.

The hidden paradise of Raja Ampat

The hidden paradise of Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat is a hidden paradise in the remote westernmost part of Indonesia with breathtaking views of Raja Ampat islands.

After a 10-hour Qatar Airways flight from London to Jakarta, a day’s rest at the Hotel Bandara International, conveniently located near the airport, I took another 6-hour flight to Sorong, but the journey wasn’t over yet. A twenty-minute drive to the harbor, where a speedboat was waiting for us to carve our way through choppy waters on the final 3-hour leg of my journey

The Royal Heritage of Bhopal’s Begums – Part 2

The Royal Heritage of Bhopal’s Begums – Part 2

Bhopal is not India’s capital, but it has all the features and reflects the great highlights of the country. Bhopal is actually the capital of Madhya Pradesh State. There was a time that Bhopal was the heart of an independent State. The city was forced to join the union of India in 1949, but since then the royalty attention has faded and the city’s monuments have been neglected.  However, there are still signs of the glory days to be seen in the ruins of the palaces and old mansions. My guide told me that the local government has become more aware of tourism, so there are plans to restore and refurbish these architectural remainders of the Nawab era. I could see, in the center of the city, that work had already started. The restoration process should result in a brighter future for this historic city

Exploring Goa: The Portuguese Heritage – Part 2

Exploring Goa: The Portuguese Heritage – Part 2

Old Goa still reflects its era of European occupation and influence. The Portuguese, as one of the best-known western powers in the 16th Century, invaded countries in the east. They advanced with full force to stay on the western coast of India, but the hand of fate reversed their destiny and overshadowed their presence after four and a half centuries. Their cultural influence and amalgamation with the Indian civilisation remain. There are no longer any Portuguese among the population, but their architecture has left a lasting mark on this region. I was amazed to see many churches, chapels, monasteries and convents in Old Goa. Religion is the theme that keeps the bond of culture and tradition alive through these monuments.
